Hopefully, you can use this knowledge as well to improve your skills on the Ironclad. I (Quincunx/ForgottenArbiter) have personally used primarily this style to obtain a current active win streak of 16. The Ironclad supports many different styles of play, but I have found this style to be the most simple and consistent for securing consecutive victories. It was honestly a really easy run and probably my most fun so far, I'm just sad I couldn't get hold of more curses. This guide will focus on a particular way to play the Ironclad class that is very defensive. I had 145 health by the end because of the Singing Bowl (which was fun that I got it right before I got the Orrery) and Feed (which TIL is affected by Magic Flower since when you gain the 4 max health you're also healed for 4 to accomodate it, which was increased to 6 and combined with the 9 healing from Burning Blood I was never in any danger for most of my run) and Exhume allowed me to play more than one a fight, in addition to any I gained randomly from Dead Branch. By the 3rd floor I was starting off every fight with 8 strength which was great for cards like Pummel and Sword Boomerang as well as the Bag of Marbles. One event I got was the Duplicator and I even duplicated a Writhe. The very next relic I got was the Dead Branch so that was even luckier since I could then exhaust all my relics and instantly replace them with something. The Gambling Chip was nice early on since I could discard any curses in my opening hand until I got the Calling Bell which I instantly took, and luckily one of the relics it gave me was the Blue Candle. When I got the Du-Vu Doll I figure I'd collect curses since I would plan on exhausing them. My beginning blessing was a random rare card and I was given Fiend Fire so I figured I'd try and do an exhaust deck. I also didn't realize upgraded True Grit let you pick the card you exhaust, that's a much better card than I originally thought. #CALLING BELL SLAY THE SPIRE FREE#It was also partly a big hitter deck having two Bludgeons (I got the first one as my free rare card at the beginning which was nice) and a lot of Perfected Strikes. Dead Branch + Charon's Ashes are hilarious with Fiend Fire, and I also had a couple good energy relics like the one that gives me Wounds. Even guys like Nemesis and Time Eater were no match.īlazed through Ascension 4 with my first Ironclad deck that went with the whole Exhaust thing, I haven't really gotten the relics to want to go for it before. I had a single Feed and by the end of the run I had over 130 health, I was building it up along with the armor. Getting a Black Star partway through was nice, too. Didn't even have any Body Slams but I still managed. By the end I had Barricade, Juggernaut, Demon Form, and 4 Metallicizes. I got an early Frozen Egg so all my Powers were upgraded, as well as a Bottled Tornado to guarantee Barricade was in my starting hand every fight. My starting boon was a random rare card and I got Barricade immediately. :(ĮDIT: Got the same deck again but waaay better. Unfortunately because it was a slow deck, when I ran into an Elite that is two of those orb-looking guys that gain 3 strength every turn and put Burn cards in your deck, I got unlucky a couple turns in a row and got two hands almost entirely made of them and I lost. It was a slow and steady deck, but by the 2nd floor I could face most battles without losing health. There were also a couple of those Limit Break cards so I could spike my Strength while hiding behind all the armor. Stuff like Barricade, Juggernaut, and lots of armor cards. Had a run with what is probably my favorite deck, an Ironclad deck all about Powers (I got Mummified Hand early) and tanking up.
